Our story

History

The Casa Marques Pereira Winery produces wine grapes since 2004 in a property then leased in Monte Belo do Sul, Quinta da Orada. The wines were produced through partnerships with other wineries and under Felipe's supervision Marques Pereira, since the first harvest in 2005. Initially the intention was that these if wines were produced for consumption from the family and given as gifts to friends and family members.

In 2015, after the purchase of property of Quinta da Orada and the Following the success of the wines produced with grapes from the estate, the decision was made to launch the product line on the market.

The name of the line, "Secrets of the Cellar," refers to these treasures that have been kept in the family's cellar for many years.

The Terroir

Located in the heart of the Monte Belo Protected Geographical Indication, our vineyard covers an area of 15 hectares with a minimum altitude of 466 meters and a maximum altitude of 543 meters above sea level.

This formation, in addition to the organoleptic characteristics it adds to grape production, contributes to perfect soil drainage and perfect fruit ripening. The vineyard also has an exceptional plot located above a vein of semi-precious stones; this plot, called "Cru Jerivás," is situated in the highest part of the property, with the greatest air circulation and sun exposure. Curiously, this location concentrates almost all the Jerivá palm vegetation on the property, which gave the plot its name. Besides a subsoil rich in agates and amethysts, it is possible to see quartz crystals and fragments of geodes that outcrop above the ground in that area.

IP Monte Belo

The Monte Belo Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) is located west of the Serra Gaúcha mountain range, in the Grape and Wine Region. Its delimited area totals 56.09 km², with 80% in the municipality of Monte Belo do Sul and the remainder in the municipalities of Bento Gonçalves and Santa Tereza. The city of Monte Belo is the largest per capita producer in Latin America of Vitis vinifera grapes, destined for the production of fine wines, with 16 tons per capita per year.

The region differs from the neighboring Vale dos Vinhedos designation mainly due to the early ripening of its grapes, with harvesting beginning 5 to 20 days earlier, the fact that it favors higher altitude areas, and is protected by a belt of native forest under permanent preservation.

Another unique characteristic is that it is the first national IP (Protected Geographical Indication) to have its own yeast. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae 24MB-CM06 yeast, selected in the region itself, adds a distinctive sensory identity to the IP wines.
