The city

Monte Belo do Sul is a small town of 2,564 inhabitants (IBGE 2018), covering approximately 70 km² and located 618 meters above sea level. It is bordered to the North by Cotiporã; to the South and East by Bento Gonçalves; and to the West by Santa Tereza. It was colonized from 1877 onwards by Italian immigrants from Udine, Mantua, Cremona, Venice, Vicenza, Treviso, Bergamo, Modena, and Belluno.
Monte Belo's geographical characteristics include hills and mountains, surrounded by the Antas River and its tributaries, which gives it attributes of altitude and a temperate climate, making viticulture its main tourist attraction and the main source of income for the population.
The municipality is considered the largest producer of grapes per capita in Latin America, with its 2,270 hectares of vineyards, and the largest producer of white grapes in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, cultivated for the production of sparkling wines.

The Church

A postcard-perfect landmark and ultimate symbol of this beautiful city, it's located in the heart of Monte Belo do Sul, next to our store. The church, with its two 65-meter-high towers, honors the patron saint, Saint Francis of Assisi, and was inaugurated in 1965. The bells ring every 15 minutes (a tradition still maintained here, so appreciated in Italy). Its size and imposing presence are impressive; it's joked that it could practically hold the entire population of Monte Belo.
